چکیده

We want to relate the concepts of entropy and pressure to that of KMS states for C∗-Algebras. Several different definitions of entropy are known in our days. The one we describe here is quite natural and extends the usual one for Dynamical Systems in Thermodynamic Formalism Theory. It has the advantage of been very easy to be introduced. It is basically obtained from transfer operators (also called Ruelle operators). Later we introduce the concept of pressure as a min-max principle. Finally, we consider the concept of a KMS state as an equilibrium state for a potential (in the context of C∗-Algebras) and we show that there is a relation between KMS states for certain algebras coming from a continuous transformation and equilibrium measures. ∗Instituto de Matemática, UFRGS, 91509-900 Porto Alegre, Brasil. We show how the variational principle for Gibbs States (which says that for the d{ dimensional cubic lattice, the set of translation invariant Gibbs States is the same as the set of translation invariant measures which maximize entropy minus energy and moreover that this quantity corresponds to the pressure) fails for nearest neighbor nite state statistical mechanical systems on the homogeneous...

The variational principle for a class of asymptotically abelian C-algebras

Let (A,α) be a C∗-dynamical system. We introduce the notion of pressure Pα(H) of the automorphism α at a self-adjoint operator H ∈ A. Then we consider the class of AF-systems satisfying the following condition: there exists a dense α-invariant ∗-subalgebra A of A such that for all pairs a, b ∈ A the C∗-algebra they generate is finite dimensional, and there is p = p(a, b) ∈ N such that [α(a), b]...
